Rainy Weekends
I feel like at this time of the year, at least in Boston, it’s raining almost everyday. I usually love rainy days, but sometimes it can limit how much you want to do things, as it’s much easier to just blow them off and stay inside to avoid getting wet. Rainy days can also put a damper on your mood, as the skies are grey and shy. Although, whether you stay in or pop outside, rainy days & weekends can be fun. They often offer time to reflect, admire and prepare. Here are several of my favorite ways to spend my rainy weekends.
sleep in & wake up slow
One of the absolute best things to do on rainy days is to stay in bed for as long as humanly possible. Curl up in your comforter and open the window so you can hear the rain falling on the pavement outside. Just soak up those moments and wake up nice and easy, settle into your day.
Hibernate in your favorite sweater & your favorite coffee shop
What is cozier than your favorite fluffy sweater? Your favorite sweater AND your favorite coffee. One of the best feelings in the world to me is the warm feeling when you hold a cup of coffee. I’m often found just sitting, cupping my mug and staring into space. There’s something so comforting about that toasty cup that gets me every time.
Freshen up your space with some flowers
I try to get fresh flowers for my space each week. Luckily, I’ve found a cheap option to do so! If you live in Boston, the DTX flower man is the perfect way to get a bouquet for around 6$. It makes a small dorm space seem so much more alive and welcoming. Coming home from a long day of class and work to a room that smells like fresh flowers certainly always cheers me up. Flowers also make rainy days a bit more joyful.
Tap into your creative side
The weekends are always a good time to tap into your pool of creative energy. Whether you’re an artist or not, everyone has the power to create. This weekend, I was inspired by the color palettes in one of my favorite books, “How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are”, to create some new Spotify cover art. I gave my playlists a makeover with some neutral fall tones.
Check things off your to-do list
Rainy weekends are the perfect time to make sure you are executing your tasks effectively. It doesn’t matter if you have essays to write, face-wash to buy, or dinner to make, getting things done on the weekend puts your mind on the right track to stay focused for the rest of the week.
eat some yummy food
I am such a foodie, and I look forward to the weekends to explore the city a bit and try some new cuisine. One of my all-time favorite places, for coffee & dinner, is Sonsie on Newbury St. I also recently tried out a new restaurant in Assembly Row called MidiCi, which has amazing pizza and a dessert pizza which sugar content and doughy goodness definitely did not disappoint.
Plan for the week ahead
I am openly a planner and perfectionist, so rainy weekends are the perfect excuse to write in my planner for the upcoming week. But I also take this time to plan out my outfits. I love expressing myself with my fashion, so naturally, rushing in the morning to get dressed is truly a bore. I take the time each Sunday evening to plan what my week will look like. Having a clothing rack helps me organize my looks, and also helps keep my college dorm closet as tidy as possible! Overall, my weeks go much smoother if I plan and organize myself as much as possible during the weekend prior.
Take a walk & be a “tourist” for the day
Especially if you live in a city, a rainy weekend can be the perfect time for you to explore a bit. There most likely won’t be as many people venturing out into the rain, so you get to be the star of the show. Walk those busy streets, and rediscover what makes your place such an exciting place to be.
Pop outside for the sunset
Normally, after the rain falls for what seems to be an entire day the sunset is magical. Make sure you at least peek outside to check. Somehow the sun usually seems to fight the clouds and win just around 6pm, which makes a perfect time to run out for dinner or errands- just in time for the next downpour.
