Fall in Love With Your Goals
Ahhh, Fall. The time of year that I (and many other apple cider lovers) crave in all other seasons. However, as much as I may love everything this season has to offer, it’s usually the busiest and most stress filled time of year for me.
Fall for me means back to University, back to work, and back to the city of Boston. Don’t get me wrong, I love all of these things, but the first few weeks of settling back into that school year rush can take a toll. In today’s post I am going to talk about how I deal with losing motivation to complete my goals once the school year hits.
Thoroughly Organize Your Agenda
When school first starts up, there can be a million meetings to attend, info sessions, and of course, classes. I am still so amazed at how many people do not keep any kind of planner or agenda. If that were me, I would definitely forget just about everything I have to do, every single day. The agenda I use is the Ban.do planner. They work perfectly for me as they separate the pages into a day by day view, also a monthly view, and have built in pages for notes, what you want to achieve that month and, stickers!! When I’m stuck in a rut, I sit down and organize my week. This way I’m not waiting until the last minute to complete tasks and I don’t forget anything. This helps me re-evaluate my goals and focus my path on what is important to me, and my future.
Take time To Breathe
Sometimes, all the stress and all of the events in my day can make me a little bit frazzled. I find that it helps if I just take 5 minutes out of my day to sit down, maybe eat a snack, and recharge. Having a break lets your mind refocus so when you have another important meeting, email to write or phone call to make, you can be your best self. I try to do this whenever I can, to just concentrate on how I can continue my day and be on the right track.
Make Goals You Are Proud Of
Make a goal that when you finish you are super proud of yourself! Make a long term goal that takes a few months to see progress, or make a goal for something you have always wanted. In doing this, you are beginning to create the life that you want for yourself, and taking it into your own hands.
Make Goals That Are Realistic
I know we all strive to be over achievers and the best versions of ourselves, but if you make a goal that is far too large for reality, it’s only going to let you down. Of course it is important to dream big, but I don’t advise you put your heart and soul into an expectation that is out of reach. For example, if I said that by the end of the week I wanted to be published in a magazine, it most likely will not happen ( at least by the end of the week). Instead, plan goals that you can control & achieve based on your drive to accomplish them. This way, when you complete it, you can feel satisfied with your progress and achieving a goal you created.
Laugh It Off & Learn From It
At the end of the day, what matters the most is if you tried your best. If you didn’t exactly meet your goal, you always have time to try again. Don’t let the fear of not succeeding stunt your motivation to start in the first place. And most important of all, don’t beat yourself up about what didn’t go as planned. This is the hardest one for me. I am a deep rooted perfectionist, and whenever I do something wrong, I feel completely led astray. (This is a good time to take that 5 minutes we were talking about earlier to recenter yourself) Come back again with good intentions, laugh it off, and see where it takes you. Deep down inside, you know all of the work you did, and if you didn’t hit the nail on its head, try again later.
Enjoy the Fall - xoxo Sophie Kay
